10GB is overkill for the vMotion network.

This is a highly subjective remark. Many use cases can take full advantage of 10 GbE for vMotion to the benefit of tolerable system maintenance times, especially when we're dealing with hosts with >384GB of RAM consumed.

If you have 10 Gb connectivity in a non-routable network, such as your direct Chassis-to-Chassis design, it seems like a good use of the bandwidth.

As for cloning, you are limited to the speed of the Management network for host-to-host transfers. However, if you can migrate the VM to the destination host and clone from there, it will eliminate that bottleneck and limit the transfer to host-to-storage chatter.
