Well VMware did an upgrade on the Site this weekend and the Forum Format has changed a bit. When one clicks Reply now you get a Editor that is not as advanced as it use to be however there is the Use advanced editor link and if one uses the Advanced Editor one can attach files as normal as before at the bottom of the reply there is a Choose File button. Oh well so much for the improvements! 
As to adding the route the way you have I do not think it will work that way, again I haven't tried it as Host-Only VMnets by default do not use Gateways. However since it not defined in the .conf file I'd suspect its not in play even though you added it in the VM. As I said, "if I was going to try using a Gateway IP address on a Host-Only VMnet I'd probably try adding the appropriateoption routers settings on the target VMnet in the vmnetdhcp.conf file." and keep in mind when doing so it has to be done properly. Meaning one must stop the Service, edit the file, restart the Service. Also do not edit files without first making a backup copy!
