Is it possible to edit the displayed text of the ThinDirect message and/or the duration the message? I have users that are asking for a better description of what is occurring and would like to see the message stay up longer.

Re: Windows 7 client takes forever to logon

Just a thought but in the 'physical' world, logon delay are often caused by DNS resolution issues.  No reason why this would be different in a VDI setup.  Any timeouts noted in DNS or resolution problems on the desktops?  Are they domain joined - if so, can a problem box be removed from the domain - does the issue still occur on the standalone?

Is there any movement on this?  I'm running into the same issue when get just running get-vm and get-vmguest.  I'm on 2008 R2.

Hi there,

I'm pretty sure the SEL log is a host event log file on Dell servers - it's accessed from the iDRAC GUI, racadm or IPMI and isn't a part of ESXi as such.

So what you could do is connect to the host, clear the SEL log, and those messages should stop (until the log fills up again!)

Re: Thinapp of Glims 8 and 9 keep hanging intermittently

If you have .net locally installed you can uncomment this line in your package.ini

; Enable this option to load .Net binaries from the system instead of the package on Windows 7 or above

;LoadDotNetFromSystem=Win7

As explained this makes your thinapp package use locally installed .net.

For the printing issue you could try to add the spool directory to your package and set it to merged (if the folder is not already present in your package):

- %SystemSystem(x64)%\spool

- %SystemSystem%\spool

You can also try to run splwow64.exe and spoolsv.exe outside the virtual enviroment by editing the following lines in your package.ini

- ChildProcessEnvironmentDefault=Virtual

- ChildProcessEnvironmentExceptions=splwow64.exe; spoolsv.exe

I see that the instruction ask the user to turn off their Windows Defender Anti-Virus and Firewall but do not ask to turn them back on. Is this additional step implied?

Does anyone know how to upgrade a VMware View 4.6.1 server SSL certificate to SHA2? I need to make sure I don't get locked out of my admin console once web browsers deprecate support for SHA1.

Thanks

Hi,

i would like to capture a base layer from Windows 10.

But creating a Reference CVD doesnt work fine.

Idle processing stucks at 0% but the machine is connected.

I've found this KB from VMware. The automated and manual method wont work with Win10.

Hi
I answer to your request via private message.
Follow Andres suggestion - without vmware-vdiskmanager all you can do is to create a full clone with 3rd party imaging tools like Ghost ....
You would add a second disk - boot into a LiveCD and do a disk-to-disk clone.
A smart clone-tool like Ghost can resize the partitions on the fly.

Re: Create a Super Metric for VMs that show how many VMs are on the parent host

I figured this out:

avg(${adaptertype=VMWARE, objecttype=HostSystem, attribute=summary|total_number_vms, depth=-1})

Since I had to use a Host object type I didn't think it would show as a Super Metric in the VM metrics....it does!

Re: What is the subdirectory where the VMware provided jar files reside?

$

Ah yes,  on 5.5 the directory is /usr/lib/vmware-vsphere-client/server/repository/ext.  Thanks.  Now I can compare the two sets of jar files.  What is still NOT clear is "Are there other directories with jar files that are in my classpath?"

So, in 5.5 plug-in developers have:

Move existing vms on esxi 4.1 host to esxi 6 host running on new hardware

$
0
0

I've got a DL380 G5 running VMware 4.1 Essentials. I've got Vcenter running as a vm on that host (Windows 2008). I have no shared storage. Datastores are just local on the host.

I purchased 2 newer servers that can handle VMware 6 Essentials (DL380 G7s that are identical). I've stood up 1 of the new servers and loaded esxi v6 on it. I've got all the licensing and keys needed for 3 hosts running v6 all set up, even though in the end I should have only 2.

Ultimate Goal: Transfer all vms and datastore off of the G5 (VMsware v4.1) to the newer G7s (VMware 6). Then decommission the G5 and use for other purposes. I'd prefer not to do much on the G5 - I don't want to upgrade it to v6 if I don't need to and I don't believe I should need to.

Put this together searching threads on the vmware community.

1) Create a new vCenter on new stood up Host using Windows Server 2012 R2. Now I should have a new vCenter managing one Host.

2) Remove the old Host (G5) from the old vCenter (2008) and add it to the new vCenter (2012).

3) Turn off VM that I move 1 at a time, and transfer to new Host.

4) Move all VMs from the old Host to the new Host in this manner then remove the old Host after VMs are moved.

Good to Go?????? What about the Datastores? I'll need them moved over also. Do they move over automatically with the VMs?

Re: vCenter Server - Application Dashboard not showing any information

OK, I do not have enough information to assist. Two options on how to proceed:

  1. Open a support case and upload an agent support bundle (not server), plus a screen shot of what is exactly not working
  2. Attach to this thread a picture of what is not working, the liagent-effective.ini and the latest liagent log file (note if this is not enough information to assist then we will need to go back to #1)
